Setup guide
Kept is a return-prevention quiz for your storefront: it shuts down avoidable returns and routes the rest to an exchange or store credit before a refund. This guide gets you live in about 10 minutes.
1 · Build your returns quiz
- Open Apps → Kept in your Shopify admin. You'll land in the Builder.
- Under Appearance → Start from a template, pick the one closest to your store (Apparel, Beauty, Electronics, Food, Home, or Generic). You can change everything later.
- Edit wording by clicking it directly in the live preview — titles, questions, and result messages are all editable inline.
- Set your policy in the Policy section: return window (days), return address, your customer-care page path, and (optionally) your average order value — it powers the “value kept” estimate.
- Pick a Style (Linen / Editorial / Soft) and your brand colors and heading font under Appearance.
- Click Save & publish (top right). The green “All changes saved” confirms it.
2 · Add the Kept block to a page
- In your admin: Online Store → Pages → Add page. Name it e.g. “Returns” (this creates
/pages/returns). Save. - Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- In the theme editor's top page selector, switch to your new Returns page.
- Click Add section (or Add block) → open the Apps group → choose Kept Returns.
- Position it where you want, then (optionally) set the block's style, direction, and accent in the right-hand settings.
- Click Save in the theme editor.
The block reads the quiz you built in step 1 automatically — you don't re-enter anything here.
3 · Link your Returns page
Add the Returns page to your footer menu (Online Store → Navigation) and/or your order and confirmation emails, so customers can find it.
4 · Test it
- Open your Returns page on the storefront and run through the quiz.
- On a development store, the storefront is password-protected (Online Store → Preferences) — enter the password to view it.
- Try a few answers to confirm the outcomes (exchange / credit / refund / not eligible) read the way you want.
FAQ
Does Kept process the refund or exchange for me?
No — Kept decides eligibility, guides the customer to the right outcome, and deflects avoidable returns. You still approve and process the actual return, refund, or exchange in Shopify as usual — now with fewer and cleaner requests.
What customer data does Kept collect?
None that identifies a shopper. The quiz records only anonymous choices (e.g. reason = “wrong size”) and an anonymous browser ID to avoid double-counting. No names, emails, addresses, payments, or order contents. See the privacy policy.
Can I run different quizzes for different collections?
One quiz per store today. If your catalog needs more than one flow, email us — we want to hear the use case.
How do I remove the “Powered by Kept” badge?
Toggle it off at the bottom of the builder — available on every plan.
Can I change the questions or add my own reason?
Yes — edit questions and options in the builder, and every template includes a customizable “Something else” option you can rename.
